After 30 years of manufacturing cigars in the Antonio Allones manufactory in 1882, the decision was made there to launch a new brand of premium quality and high prices. With great confidence and little modesty, it was called El Rey del Mundo - The King of the World - and became a complete success. At that time, these cigars were among the most expensive in the world. Today, the standard range consists of two formats, famous for their light to medium-bodied flavor and consistency.
Worth knowing
Long before the revolution as an expensive “luxury brand” established, the once wide range of this brand has shrunk to just 2 formats. This Hermoso is relatively cheap today, offers approx. 50 - 65 minutes smoking time but highest quality. One of the hottest insider tips from Cuba! The classification as “strong” is a bit questionable, the Habano is rather medium strong.
Flavours
An incredibly complex and flavorful cigar with a surprising amount of variety for the handy format. The enchanting blossom and caramel sweetness of the opening never quite disappears from the creamy smoke, but progressively gives way to darker, spicier umami notes – Coffee beans, gentleman's chocolate, essential herbs, cinnamon and cedarwood. It is reminiscent of many other brands in turn, without being alike – Friends of Trinidad or Cuaba will feel just as comfortable with it as those from Vegas Robaina or even Cohiba. A gem!
Worth knowing
The ERdM small format, barely larger than a cigarillo, nevertheless offers high intensity with medium strength. The classy, stylish Smoke for 25 – 35 minutes and any time of day in the rare “Entreacto” has been on the market for a long time. Quite contrary to the trend towards ever larger ring sizes, he quite rightly keeps sworn fans.
Flavours
Not quite as complex as the „CS”, this pencil-thin Habano has a lot to offer: coffee, roasted and umami taste, the small ring gauge amazingly focused and intense; but also finer, more subtle notes of tropical woods and herbs, vanilla and cappuccino. Perfectly balanced between spice and softness, sweet and pithy tones. She gets more powerful towards the end, with more body but never biting. A real insider tip!
