Hermann Upmann war ein Bankier aus Deutschland, der kubanische Zigarren so sehr liebte, dass er 1844 nach Havanna umsiedelte, wo er fortan als Bankier und Zigarrenhersteller tätig war. Seine Bank musste kurz nach 1920 geschlossen werden, aber seine Zigarren leben als exzellentes Beispiel für eine Habano von leichtem bis mittelkräftigem Geschmack weiter. Collectors and lovers of the brand will find the design of the ashtray familiar, as a similar design has already been used for the Cohiba Behike ashtray.

The curved shape of the Cohiba 55 Years Cigar Ashtray, which is almost completely black and decorated with a gold rim, is reminiscent of an open flower. The three gold-plated cigar trays arranged in the shape of a triangle are a real eye-catcher. The inside of the ash tray is adorned with the brand logo in the form of a gold-plated Indian head and the Cohiba lettering. To emphasise the significance of the 55th birthday, this has also been placed in white numerals in the ash tray.
