Carolina leaves dried in hot air perfectly preserve their fermantation sugar, "Old-Belt Virginia" is reminiscent of walnut as well as liquorice and also has noble woody tones. Offering friends of natural pipe tobacco a blend consisting only of Virginia may seem daring. However, it has succeeded brilliantly - because the quality and combination of the leaves used are, as usual with the Nuremberg specialists, beyond any doubt. Red and orange Virgina from leaves high up on the plant builds up plenty of sugar and appears stronger than low leaf stands. The Gowrie region in the heart of Scotland, which has always been known for its flourishing agricultural economy, is often referred to as the “garden” of the country. It is therefore entirely appropriate that Rattray's dedicates a tobacco to it that is as rustic and down-to-earth as it is rich in finesse!

A hand-rubbed “Ready Rubbed”, not too far removed from Marlin and Hal in terms of taste, but naturally with its own distinctive character. Matured for months in the press, the dark Virginia releases its soft, silky bouquet in all its glory, while the rare Perique provides the salt in the soup, i.e. a finely interwoven network of spice, liquorice and roasted/bread aromas. Like every Rattray's, this one also has its own special twist - here it is a well-measured Kentucky addition that gives the rather strong tobac a peaty, yeasty touch. A lasting aroma!
